Removal, trimming or cleaning
Not every palm needs to come out. Palm cleaning keeps a healthy palm tidy and safe, and it's part of the regular maintenance that helps palms stay strong and free of disease.
When a palm does need to go, we take it down safely and carefully, even close to the house or other structures. Our elevated work platform reaches up to 20 metres and needs as little as 860 mm of access.
We'll give you honest advice on whether to keep, clean or remove it, and the quote is free.
Why palms are different
A palm grows from a single point at the top, so it can't be reduced the way a tree can: once the crown goes, the palm goes. Palms also shed heavy fronds and seed, and a tall one needs the right access equipment. That's why a palm is either cleaned or removed.

Palm cleaning and trimming
Palm cleaning is the tidy-up a palm needs every so often: the dead and dying fronds, the dead frond bases left on the trunk, and the flower and seed stalks all come off. It's what most people mean by palm tree trimming: the crown is cleaned, not shaped.
It matters because of what falls. A bangalow palm frond is three to four metres long and lands on whatever is below: the path, the roof, the pool. Seed stalks drop fruit that ferments on the ground, and cocos palm fruit harms the flying foxes that eat it, so the stalks come off before the seed sets.
Good practice:
- Only dead and dying fronds come off. Green fronds feed the palm, and a yellowing lower frond usually means it's short of nutrients, not that it needs cutting.
- No “hurricane cut”. Stripping a palm to a few upright fronds weakens it and makes the crown more likely to snap off in a storm.
- No climbing spikes on a palm that is staying. A palm can't seal a wound, so every spike hole stays open to disease and pests. Our elevated work platform reaches up to 20 metres, so tall palms can be cleaned from the basket.
How often depends on the palm. Commercial sites often clean yearly or twice a year; at home, when dead fronds and seed stalks build up, it's due. We clean, trim and remove palms across Brisbane and Moreton Bay, and the quote is free.
What affects the cost of palm removal?
Every palm is different, so we quote each job for free after seeing it. Things that usually affect the price include:
- How tall the palm is
- How easy it is to get to
- What's nearby: the house, pool, fences or power lines
- Whether you'd like the stump ground out
- How many palms there are
